In today’s highly dynamic and results-oriented business landscape, productivity and team engagement is often tied to efficiency and optimization.
And while this is true for machines, for the most part, it’s counter-productive when dealing with humans.
According to Productivity Coach Kate Dames, machines work based on how they have been programmed, but humans work based on their motivation.
Humans are also flexible and can learn and change more quickly than machines. What then is the missing piece for a productive and engaged team?
Here’s what humans need:
– Downtime – just like machines need time for service from time to time; humans need time to regenerate.
– Variety and growth – humans need opportunities to try new things, fail, and try again.
– Feedback – this allows humans to get better at what they do.
– Relaxation – maximum productivity is often achieved when humans are not under extreme stress or pressure.
– Time to think – problem solving and solutions are only achieved through proper thinking.
