Packaging is almost a trillion-dollar global industry that touches every human being.
A lot is going on in this industry and more are expected in the coming years.
In an interview with McKinsey’s David Feber and Monica Toriello, Amcor CEO Ron Delia highlights the various trends in the packaging industry, from what’s trending to what to expect in the future.
According to Delia, the rise of e-commerce, rapid tech adoption, and widespread concerns about sustainability are pushing manufacturers to rethink the packaging of their products.
Feber notes that the packaging that won’t have a future are the ones that aren’t sustainable, are incredibly resource-intensive, and have better solutions coming up behind them.
The shift from glass to plastic packaging is another trend that’s been well underway for a long time.
Delia believes that quality plastic packaging has a future in the industry once they have evolved to meet the consumer’s requirements and when there’s a solid infrastructure to ensure efficient recycling and composting.
