As brought to attention in the video below from the CEO of INC, one of the most difficult things to do as a company grows is to objectively assess the capabilities of the people around you.
This becomes even more difficult when these people have been with you from the start, worked hard to grow the company, and believed in your vision. But by not assessing your talent, you will hinder the company’s future and eventually lose your competitive edge.
So Is Your Bench Strength Strong Enough For Growth?
1. Evaluate your LEADERS!
Are they what you need to bring the company to the next level?
2. Are Resources Readily Available?
Just because someone has great credentials and experience doesn’t mean you don’t have to train them!
Make sure you are providing ALL employees with the proper training to complete their jobs. Also, provide them with resources needed to be creative and inventive.
The employees in leadership roles can help you with this. Once you are sure you have the right person guiding the team, make sure they are equipped with the items needed to train their team. Also listen to feedback regarding new ideas and problem areas.
3. Remember it’s a TEAM effort!!
You have your leadership team and training methods in place, so its Ready, Set, Go…NOPE, STOP!
You took the time to analyze your leaders, your company goals, and what needed to change. Now it is time to take it one step further.
Leaders can be great, when they have the right people to lead. It’s a team effort! It is hard to meet strategic goals, when there is a talent gap hindering team performance. Once you know what you want, and what you need, find the best people to complete the team.
So go for it! The future is yours to change, just make sure you have the right people on your bench first!
