If you are like most job seekers, you’re probably tired of sending out resumes that don’t seem to hit the mark.
In a recent People in Transition Podcast, Adrian Choo, a career strategist, shared some valuable insights on common mistakes made on resumes and how to present yourself during an interview.
According to Choo, most resumes don’t stand out because they are either too long, outdated, poorly edited, or there are gaps in the work experience section.
He also notes that hiring managers are trying to answer three main questions: Who are you? Why should I hire you? And whether you fit into the team/company.
The secret is to be authentic in your responses. That is, don’t try to be someone you think the hiring manager wants to talk with.
Lastly, Choo explains that the best time to start being ready for a job change is today, even if you aren’t currently looking for one.
And as he puts it, “To wait until you must change jobs is starting way behind.”
What else are you doing to stand out in today’s job market?
